Comparison

I was planning to blog about all of the first days of school we have had this week, but something struck me today and I just can't get it out of my head.

Today I took this photo:
This is a photo of  of a little girl who has lived here for
5 months
playing with her toys in her room.

5 months ago I took this photo:

This is a photo of a little girl in a small village north of Addis Ababa,
and that's no toy tied to her back.

...I think the first day of school pix will just have to wait.

that give me chills ... those kids are so capable, in a way that i can't even imagine. even little ruby (22 mo) will watch everything I do and copy it - sweeping, feeding her dolls, putting things back. survival skills.

Thanks for sharing. We brought our little girl home in July (she is three)and she is always asking us to tie her babies to her back! It is so precious, but it makes me wonder about her life before us...I am sure she was carried for many months in the same loving way. So precious... I look forward to hearing more about your daughter's transition. I loved following your journey because Lilah is close in age to our little girl. It is so wonderful to bring home a preschool age child!!!

those pictures are uncanny.
images such as these leaves one in a stance of ponder to think & remind us about what the young children experience & endure at such fragile ages in Eth and other third world countries.

thank you for sharing.

Sohailah's right...she is precious and has such life in her eyes and smile. I see the same in Abbie's and want to shield her from everything that could bring about disappointment and dull that light. I think that's the hardest part about being a parent...knowing you can't do that completely and trying to find out exactly the right way to instill resilience, confidence, compassion, and a genuine love for the people around them. My god, I feel myself growing up with this child.

However, I got off track...I can't really put into words the emotions both of the images provoke. Touching to say the least.
