They don't cost a lot of money to "adopt" because they actually have their own houses in the neighborhood and a parent or guardian of some kind... but they practically live at my house fulltime for different seasons. It's interesting--but the need is there and we've opened our home in this way to help meet the need. It doesn't always feel "valid" but I know that it is truly my service.Karenkoolhttps://www.blogger.com/profile/07458924226091801430noreply@blogger.comtag:blogger.com,1999:blog-5531610805993268481.post-89937651797159577332009-09-07T21:44:41.317-05:002009-09-07T21:44:41.317-05:00Right on!!!!Right on!!!!Kellyhttps://www.blogger.com/profile/10122342850799750033noreply@blogger.comtag:blogger.com,1999:blog-5531610805993268481.post-80544965503952460642009-09-07T14:58:31.770-05:002009-09-07T14:58:31.770-05:00Hey There!

If not, thought you might be interested.

http://spreadsheets.google.com/pub?key=ppHBvDAxQ8m6D9u0lLFvNIA&gid=0

I look forward to following your journey!

HeidiHeidihttps://www.blogger.com/profile/05855145567035760634noreply@blogger.comtag:blogger.com,1999:blog-5531610805993268481.post-29297217532097003432009-09-06T08:57:14.400-05:002009-09-06T08:57:14.400-05:00Also, hi, you don't know me at all, I just rea...Also, hi, you don't know me at all, I just realized that was creepy.

I found your blog through some other mention of adoption blogs (Ethiopia or Bust, Steven Curtis Chapman? I can't remember), and I've enjoyed following your story. :)Anonymousnoreply@blogger.comtag:blogger.com,1999:blog-5531610805993268481.post-33586960462209284982009-09-06T08:55:53.258-05:002009-09-06T08:55:53.258-05:00Thank you for saying this, and for reinforcing to ...Thank you for saying this, and for reinforcing to me that I am not crazy for thinking it.

My family has never had much money, and yet my parents adopted my brother. We are not, and have not EVER been, well off financially. But they did it. I see people much, much more financially stable than us commenting on the cost - and the cost is ridiculous! But it's almost as though "the cost" becomes the excuse or justification for keeping adoption as some kind of second-rate "Plan B" or altruistic addendum.

If you want an addendum, I say (with no disrespect towards child sponsors, because I am one myself) - sponsor a kid. Adoption is my plan A, should I ever be married and/or financially ready for children. Not "should I not get pregnant and then have a long list of unsuccessful fertility treatments." Plan A, first choice, this is where we will start. It is really, really hard for me to not be judgmental (and I KNOW I shouldn't be) when I hear about Christian couples trying and trying and trying to pop out a biological kid, for years and years and maybe, almost, eventually, "maybe we should start thinking" about adoption.Anonymousnoreply@blogger.comtag:blogger.com,1999:blog-5531610805993268481.post-2459041484669150232009-09-06T08:45:45.522-05:002009-09-06T08:45:45.522-05:00Yes, Gayla, you can be controversial at times, but...Yes, Gayla, you can be controversial at times, but God love ya, we need people like you in this world to make us think - to either take a second look at what we believe, or to be bolder in our stances. I am so glad you found Linny's blog! She has been such an encouragement to me. I wish I could meet her.

I also happen to think she is right on this. Scripture is so clear about taking care of the orphans. That includes bringing them into your family. Our God is able to do really BIG things, including providing the funds for an adoption. Money should never scare people off. I have never heard of one family that has started an adoption that got to the point of travel and said, "We can't do this, we don't have the money." God always comes through. It may not be when and how we think it should be, but He always provides.

Thank you for being willing to step out and say what I haven't been courageous enough to say. Yes, every Believer should adopt a child!Kimberliehttps://www.blogger.com/profile/00682309129537807752noreply@blogger.com
